Brooke

Lennon and I have been seeing each other on the downlow for the last few weeks. No one save for Melanie and his brother Hendrix knows about us. I was worried at first that the sex was so good that it was fooling me into thinking we were in love, but the more time we spend together, the more that fear fades.

We’ve been careful to not be seen together and have opted for dates at my house or going out of town for dinner here and there. He’s here now and it’s a little unexpected. He wasn’t supposed to come over until tomorrow, but I’m not complaining. I’ll take any of him that I can get.

A thin stream of sunlight splinters through the blinds, lighting up Lennon's intense blue eyes as he hands me an envelope. His gaze is earnest, and I can feel my heart beating faster before I even read the words inside. I pull out the folded paper, revealing a picturesque cabin nestled in a serene forest clearing. Butterflies swarm my stomach—both excitement and nerves fluttering within me.

Lennon, his voice hesitant yet hopeful, says, “I know it's soon for us to go away together, but I thought maybe we could go up for the night and come back tomorrow evening. The guy I work for owns it and he’s offered it to me whenever I might want to use it. It's secluded, and we won't have to worry about anyone seeing us since it's ninety minutes away.” He runs his fingers through his short dark hair, the vulnerability in his eyes making me fall for him just a little bit more.

My mind races, the weight of our secret pressing down on me, but the pull towards him is undeniable. It would be nice to be able to go out as a couple and not worry about who might see us.

I smile, and say, “It sounds wonderful.”

Relief washes over his face as he pulls me into a hug, enveloping me in his strong arms.

It isn’t long before we’re on our way. As we drive to our destination, a sense of adventure seizes me, and I can't help but wonder if we’ve taken things way too fast, but when I glance over at Lennon, his hand firmly gripping the wheel and a soft smile playing on his lips, I know it's a risk worth taking.

How could anything wrong feel so right?
